A logo (abbreviation of logotype, from Greek: λόγος logos "word" and τύπος typos "imprint") is a graphic mark, emblem, or symbol commonly used by commercial enterprises, organizations and even individuals to aid and promote instant public recognition. Logos are either purely graphic (symbols/icons) or are composed of the name of the organization (a logotype or wordmark).

In the days of hot metal typesetting, a logotype was one word cast as a single piece of type, e.g. "The" in ATF Garamond (as opposed to a ligature, which is two or more letters joined, but not forming a word).[2] By extension, the term was also used for a uniquely set and arranged typeface or colophon. At the level of mass communication and in common usage a company's logo is today often synonymous with its trademark or brand.

Why need a logo design?
A logo is basically an illustration of your entire company image, which is then communicated to your prospect in a graphic or symbolic way.

After all, what is the main purpose of having a logo? Why does my business need a professionally designed logo? The answer is simple: A professionally designed logo attracts attention, and leaves an everlasting impression in people's minds. It's true! Look at Nike, the famous shoe company, as an example. When you see that "swoosh" logo, you immediately know that is Nike. YaHoo! is another prominent example. There are numerous other examples that could be cited, that you probably see every day (Golden Arches, Coca-Cola swirl), and undoubtedly you can appreciate the power a simple, well-designed logo and Corporate Identity can have for your business.
If the logo design and selection steps of the process are successful, the results will also be successful. If the logo designed and selected does not reflect and represent the brand accurately, the results can be disastrous.

For business owners, it’s about understanding what they want the brand to communicate, and for designers it’s about translating that message for consumers through text, color, line, and form, with each of these elements fitted snuggly to the goals of the brand.

It will separate you from the competition. Having a well designed logo will give you an advantage over your competition and allow you to compete as a business. Consider the companies that are in your industry. You want to look like you belong but you also want to look like the better option

Every successful business invests money into marketing their business. Consider the potential that a custom logo design can have on that investment.
